This book left me emotionally spent!!! It was like reading the pages of my own life experiences (not exactly but eerily similar). Growing up in that part of the country and living with men and women who lived off the land, it gave me a fly on the wall view into the relationships and behaviors of my people. I have pics of ancestors with scowls on their faces seemingly unwilling or unable to show emotion. We carry the scars and, to this day, pass the baggage of slavery’s effects.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand family dynamics and the relationships that men have with each other.
